The problem
Many users were struggling to find the specific type of holiday they were looking for, and the filters available to narrow down their search results were confusing and difficult to use. It was clear that a redesign of the holiday search was necessary in order to improve the user experience and increase bookings.
The main problem with the holiday search was that the filters were not clearly labeled and it was difficult for users to understand how they could use them to narrow down their search results. Additionally, the filters were not organized in a logical manner, making it even more difficult for users to find the ones they needed.
Solution
To solve these issues, we redesigned the holiday search to make the filters more understandable and easier to use. First, we created clear and descriptive labels for each filter, so that users would know exactly what they were selecting. We also organized the filters into categories based on their relevance, so that users could easily find the ones they needed. Describing the labels I did together with the PO, researcher and a dedicated copywriter. To change the design to a more logical order I asked the CRO specialist for the current user data.
In addition to improving the labels and organization of the filters, we also made some changes to the layout of the search page. We added the more logical order to make the search flow faster and easier to use, and we made sure that the most important filters were placed at the top of the page where they would be more visible to users.
Result
The redesign of the holiday search was a success! In order to validate the design changes we did a usability test with a group of users. The user feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many users praising the improved clarity and organization of the filters. The designs are now build by development step by step.
"Joshua is curious and is always open to new knowledge and information. He also actively looks for ways to test whether what he is doing is right, which he does in various forms. Joshua is not afraid to try new things, like facilitating a team session in Girona with the developers. Or like the usability test he did together with the UX Reseacher. In this, he is also very open to the outcomes and really makes use of them."
